Jim Watkins, CERT Coordinator, accepts a proclamation from Mayor Harry Rediger during the Sept. 22 City Council meeting in Cape Girardeau, recognizing September as “National Preparedness Month”.

The theme of the month, Resolve to be Ready, creates an important opportunity for all residents to prepare their homes, businesses and communities for any type of emergency, including natural disasters. The proclamation notes that emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every citizen, and citizens are encouraged to make preparedness a priority and work together to be ready for disasters and emergencies of any type.
